Categories

Forum categories are the sections where your users can create topics. Without them, the forum cannot function properly.

How to Create New Category​

  1. Navigate to the GameCMS Dashboard.
  2. Go to Website Modules.
  3. Select Forum from the menu.
  4. Select Categories from the menu.
  5. Click the button New Category.
  6. Enter the category name and click Create.

Options​

Overview​

  • Name: The name of the category.
  • Category URL: The category URL, e.g., news, will be used like yourwebsite.com/forum/category/news.
  • Description: Optional description of the category.
  • Category Color: The color of the category. This color is used as the border color for the category in all default themes.
  • Category Icon: Icon for the category.
  • Should this item be shown to users: Toggle to hide/show the category.
  • Lock the category: Prevent new topics from being created in this category.
  • Show topics on the homepage: Display topics from this category on the homepage.
  • Show topics by: Specify criteria for displaying topics.
  • Sort topics by: Specify criteria for sorting topics.

Permissions​

Your forum must have the correct permissions set for each group to work smoothly.

Permissions allow you to manage what kind of access each group has for the created category. You can select a group from the Permissions tab. Once you select a group, the permissions will be shown with a description of what each one means.

Topics​

From the Topics tab, you can manage all category topics and create new ones as well.

Tips for Organizing​

You can drag and drop categories from the categories list. You can drop categories into different categories to create subcategories. Subcategories help organize your resources, especially if it is complex.
